When you install the extension, you’ll see many new buttons and menus on your screen, which might be confusing. In this video, we’ll explore how to navigate and discover all the useful tools provided by TubeBuddy. TubeBuddy is an extension for YouTube, offering over 70 tools to help you rank higher in searches, gain more views, and boost your productivity by saving time on repetitive tasks.

You can download the TubeBuddy extension for free from their website. If you’re interested in additional tools, there’s a subscription option available, but it’s important to note that you already get plenty of free tools. On my channel, you’ll find a playlist featuring tutorials on various tools, both free and paid, offered by TubeBuddy to help you make the most of the extension.

To start, click the link. It’ll take you to the TubeBuddy website. There, find the button to download the extension. Click it, then press “Get.” Now, sign up with your email. On your new dashboard (we’ll look at it later), you can add your channel. For the free account, add as many channels as you want.

Let’s go back to YouTube and see what the extension added to your screen

Let’s begin with the homepage. At the top, there’s a new button. When you click it, the entire screen turns white, and a big menu appears. On the left, there are four tabs.

The first one is a shortcut to some tools TubeBuddy recommends for you. The second tab shows updates from TubeBuddy, the third tab displays news from their blog, and the last one is for your channel, where you can download all the certificates. I have a detailed video explaining this; you can check it out for more information.

On the right side, there’s a black menu with a few sections. The first section provides shortcut links to things you often need when uploading or managing your channel, such as going to the content tab on YouTube Studio, playlists, comments, and analytics. It’s handy for quick access. The next section includes extension tools. These are SEO-based actions from TubeBuddy on YouTube itself, providing a shortcut to these tools for faster access. 

Following that, there’s a section with links to tools on your TubeBuddy website dashboard. We’ll explore those after going through all the YouTube tools. “My Account” contains links related to your account, like your dashboard and affiliate program dashboard. Then there’s a section for their community, and the last one is to get support from them. They respond quickly, just so you know. Their customer service is very good.

TubeBuddy’s Videolytics Tool

When you enter any YouTube video, you’ll find a bunch of analytics and tools. On the right side of the video, there’s “Videolytics” by TubeBuddy. It provides analytics for both the specific video and the channel as a whole. This information is valuable for deciding if a topic is suitable for a new video on your channel. You can also copy the tags using the button there. To close this box, click on the arrow on the right side. If you want to explore more tools like Advanced Embed, click on “Tools.” There’s also an option to compare this video to another video using its URL.

Under the video, you’ll find the tags cloud button, which is free from TubeBuddy. If you’ve created canned responses with TubeBuddy, you can use them for any comment. Please avoid spamming the comment section, as it’s not a good idea for your channel ranking on YouTube. As a free user, you can create one canned comment, and if you pay, you get unlimited.

TubeBuddy’s Channelitics Tool

When you go into the channel, on the main page, you’ll find “Channelitics” for the entire channel, allowing you to compare it to your channel. Another handy feature is the Channel ID, which you can copy for any necessary use. You can also close the Channelitics if you want to.

Let’s use the shortcut to the YouTube Studio dashboard. Now, you’ll notice we still have the TubeBuddy menu button, but there’s a new button on the side. This side button will be present everywhere in the studio, and it changes when you enter a specific video editing window. Once again, you’ll find links to tools they want to highlight.

Now, let’s head to the Content tab, where you get more buttons and menus. You still have the top menu and the toolbox on the side, but now you have different options. At the top of the content, you’ll see a TubeBuddy logo with the title “Bulk and Misc Tools.” Clicking on it gives you various tools related to managing your videos with bulk tasks, saving a lot of time. Some tools here are part of the Pro and Legend plans, requiring payment, but there are more free tools in other parts of the studio.

Next, you’ll see a logo button on every video for specific tasks on each video individually. When opened, you find many tools across five tabs. The first tab offers quick links to tools, with some free options like Thumbnail Analyzer, Advanced Embed, and Pick a Winner, which I explain in videos. The next tab is the Launch Pad, a free tool to analyze a specific video and get a list of things to improve its ranking. The third tab provides quick links to analytics for this particular video, very useful. The fourth tab offers info about the video, allowing you to copy direct links and know the playlist it’s on – check out the tutorial video for details, and it’s free. The last tab is for notes.

Now, click on the Playlists tab. Here, you’ll find the TubeBuddy logo on each playlist, but with different options on the first tab, and these are free to use. I also have a video about this. The other tabs are similar to the ones on the videos list.

TubeBuddy in a specific video

Let’s dive into a specific video to explore more TubeBuddy buttons. Again, there’s the top menu, and on the side, the menu switches to specific tasks you can perform with this video. You’ll find a new quick menu on the side, allowing you to edit other videos without going back to the Content tab. Clicking on any video opens its edit window in this internet tab, so be sure to save changes before moving to another video.

On the left side, you’ll see the video thumbnail and another TubeBuddy logo, which is the same menu as in the full list of videos.

Now, let’s see what we have in the main video editing section. At the top, there’s a shortcut for testing different elements of the video, like another thumbnail or title. This feature works only with the Legend subscription.

Below the title, there’s a Title Generator, which I find helpful for making titles tighter with small suggestions.

Most tools here are for paid members.

Next is the Chapter Editor, a time-saver that I believe helps improve video ranking. You can find a video tutorial.

The Thumbnail Analyzer is free, and there’s a video about it.

The Thumbnail Generator is free but limited, and I find it easier to create thumbnails on Canva.

TubeBuddy Tags tools

When you scroll down to the tags box, double-tap on any tag, and it opens a window with the SEO Studio to decide what to do with the tags. This works for free users but is limited to 3 results. I rarely use it because tags are not as important anymore, but I do use the other tag tools they have. Scroll a bit more, and you’ll find a list of ideas for tags. Click on one, and it inserts it into the tag box, making the process faster. Don’t need to pay much attention to tags; just throw in tags you get from the suggestions. There are also tag tools to copy and translate tags, which are free.

If you go into the End Screen and Card Editor, you’ll find the TubeBuddy button that gives you the option to add a template for cards and end screens. This is a great idea to include both and can help you get more views on your channel. The shortcut makes it faster to add the card and end screen, ensuring you won’t forget them.

On the right side of the main video editing section, you’ll find more tools. The Upload Default is handy to save time on copying and pasting the same information. There are limited options for free users, and I have a video about it too.

You can create a profile in the settings for the entire channel and apply it to videos with the same description and tags. You can select from the list of profiles and choose what you want to change in the video metadata. The best practice is to assist with additional elements you can add to the video to help it rank higher and get more views. This is a paid tool.

Now, let’s explore some more buttons in the YouTube Studio.

If you’re in a specific video, you can navigate to the analytics for that video. There, you’ll find a small button offering suggested shorts. You can try this feature for free with 5 suggestions, and after that, it becomes a paid option. The suggestions are based on the analytics of the video, so having some data beforehand is necessary for accurate recommendations.

In the YouTube editor, there’s a button for template cards and end screens, which is a time-saver if you want to enhance engagement with your content.

TubeBuddy’s Comments tools

In the comment tab, you’ll find additional features for responding to comments. You can use editing options like bold and emojis to make your comments stand out. There’s also the TubeBuddy logo, providing canned responses you created earlier, allowing you to answer questions without repeating the same text each time.

If you’re in the subtitles tab of the video, TubeBuddy provides suggestions for additional languages that you can use to translate the subtitles.

Back on the main dashboard

In the main analytics tab, there’s a box with suggestions on when to publish your video.

Clicking on the settings tab, you’ll notice next to the default upload, there’s a TubeBuddy logo. This is for additional default uploads that you can utilize while uploading a video or when editing the video afterward. As a free user, you get one more default upload setting, while paid users can have as many as they want. I’ve also created a very detailed video about this tool.

Great! It seems like we’ve covered every button and menu of the TubeBuddy extension on YouTube. Now, let’s head to the TubeBuddy dashboard on their site, where you’ll find even more tools. Yes, more tools, This extension has a lot of cool features. 

Click on the top menu in TubeBuddy and find “My Dashboard.” You’ll land on the TubeBuddy website dashboard. If not, just sign in with Google and click on “My Account.” On the main dashboard, you’ll see all the channels connected to TubeBuddy. From here, you can upgrade your account, but be careful with the right channel choice because you can’t change it after upgrading.

On the left side, there’s a general menu for various tasks. Check out the affiliate program; they are generous, and you don’t need a paid membership to promote them. Looking at the main dashboard, you can see I have one channel on the Legend plan and others on the free plans. On the free plans, you’ll notice things you can click on are in bolder colors, while what you can’t do is grayed out.

From here, you can manage the actions you’ve taken, such as canned comments and A/B testing. When you enter one of the tools, you’ll find the specific channel menu, and you can access each tool from the left sidebar. You can also switch channels from the top menu. If you want to return to the main dashboard, click on “Back to Home.”

Embed a YouTube video using only the URL

If you want to embed a video on your website or any site that allows YouTube video embedding, you can do this very simply with the YouTube embed code. Before I show you that, you should know that some website builders can handle YouTube embeds with only the URL of the video.

I have a WordPress website, and let’s say I want to embed a YouTube video. I open the editor and just copy the URL. If you use any builder plugin like Divi or Elementor, you have a special block for that. In the simple Gutenberg editor, you also have a block for this URL. So, click on the plus button, look for YouTube, then add the link. That’s it. You can also grab playlists and embed them in the YouTube block.

However, there is a problem with the video. The embed comes with a lot of things that YouTube adds, and that can cause your visitors on your website to leave and go to YouTube.

So, if you want to eliminate that, you should know that you have the option to embed the HTML code instead of just the URL. With the code, you can add anything you want. Let’s say you want the video to start at a certain point.

Embed the video using the HTML code provided by YouTube

Open the video you want to embed. You can do this for any video on YouTube, not just your videos. Click on “share,” and then click on “embed.” You’ll get the HTML code from YouTube. Copy that code and paste it on your website using an HTML code block.

YouTube provides options that you can add to the code. you can start the video at a certain point. Tick the box and add the time you want the video to start. There are two more options. One is if you want to show the YouTube control buttons or not. If you choose not to show them, the video will appear on your website only with the option to play or stop. However, users won’t be able to add captions or play it at different speeds. Still, there are a few clickable areas that can bring the person back to YouTube. It may show the next videos that are not from your channel.

And the other option is if you don’t want YouTube to collect data about your visitors.

If you know HTML, you can change the code. YouTube provides a list of parameters that you can add to the HTML to customize it.

If you’re like me and don’t know how to code, you can use either VidIQ or TubeBuddy Advanced Embed. Both are free to use. If you’re not using these free extensions yet, you should. The links to add the extensions of VidIQ and TubeBuddy are in the description.

To add the extensions, click on the links in the description. When you get to their website, you can sign up for free and then get the extension for your browser.

Embed the video using the VidIQ Advanced Embed Code tool

Let’s start with the VidIQ advanced embed. You can find the Advanced Embed option on any YouTube video under the video itself. There’s a button with the VidIQ logo. Click on that, and you’ll get a short menu with the option to go to Advanced Embed. You can also find Advanced Embed in your YouTube Studio. Open your studio by clicking on the avatar, then find it in the menu. Click on the Content tab, and you’ll see a list of all your videos. Next to each one, there’s the VidIQ logo. Click on the logo, then choose Advanced Embed.

Now, let’s see what options we have here. You can choose a different size for the video. Then, there’s a list of options you can add to the HTML embed code. For instance, you can make the video start playing when the website page loads or add captions to the video. You can also start and stop the video at a certain point. With YouTube, you can only start the video at a certain point but not stop it. Additionally, you can loop the video, hide the YouTube logo, and most importantly, prevent YouTube from adding the suggested video list at the end of your video, which is very important if you want your visitors to stay on your website.

Now, click on the text and copy it. Go to your website and add that HTML code in the right place. When you publish it, you won’t see the related videos. If the video is too big for your website, change the size of the video and then copy and paste it again.

Embed the video using the TubeBuddy Advanced Embed Code tool

Let’s talk about TubeBuddy Advanced Embed. Once you have the extension, you can see a window with TubeBuddy stats on the side. Click on “Tools,” and you’ll find Advanced Embed. Similar to VidIQ, TubeBuddy also provides this embed in your Content tab in your YouTube Studio. Next to each video, there’s the TubeBuddy logo. Click on it, and you’ll see a long list of TubeBuddy tools. I have a full playlist that shows how to use each one. Find Advanced Embed, and now you have a list of options to choose from.

Select the size of the iframe video and when to start or finish the video play. You can also choose the controls on the video. If you want to remove the YouTube logo from the video with TubeBuddy, click on “Modest Branding.” Then, you’ll have the customized HTML. Click on it and copy it to paste on your website.

What’s the difference between VidIQ and TubeBuddy Advanced Embed? Well, TubeBuddy gives you the option to disable things, while VidIQ allows you to add them.

Both tools give you the same thing. They utilize YouTube’s list of HTML codes that you can add to the video embed. However, they do it for you without the need to write everything inside the HTML.

Embed a YouTube video on your WordPress site using the Presto Player plugin for extra customization

If you have a WordPress website, I also use a plugin that helps me with video embedding. As you can see, YouTube can add various elements to the video, and you can’t completely remove everything like the YouTube logo.

If you want to eliminate all text and make it so no one recognizes the video as a YouTube video, you can use the Presto Player plugin. This plugin provides tons of additional options, which are great if you want to embed a video in a landing page without visitors being directed to YouTube in any way. It creates a different player for your videos, and you can customize the colors, decide if it should autoplay, and even prevent viewers from stopping the video, among other options.

Many small details can boost your views by adding them to your video description, like using chapters. At first, I knew adding chapters was important, but it took too much time.

First, download the extension if you don’t have it yet. I will add an explanation at the end of the post on how to get TubeBuddy

After you’ve got the extension, go to your YouTube Studio, where you manage all your videos. You can find the studio on the right top icon.

Once you’re in the YouTube Studio, go to the Content tab and click on the new button you got with the extension. Find the tool Find and Replace.

The first option should be on Find and Replace, but you have other options to replace text in the title and description in bulk. You can watch the video for an in-depth tutorial on all the other options.

Now, add the number of the year you want to change and add the year you want to change it to. If you want to change the title and descriptions or only the titles, check the right box for your situation.

Next, click on continue. Now, it will ask you how to find the videos on your channel. If you want to find them based on the year number, then leave the first option. If you want to search differently, then click on one of the other options.

Next, it will scan your channel to find the videos that have the year you want to change, and the tool will give you the full list. You can choose which video you want to change and which not, or you can select all of them. Then click on continue, and it will start the process of changing the year on all of your older content.

Now, your channel is up to date.

On YouTube, you can post videos, but they don’t all have to be public and found in search. There are three options for video publishing settings. You can make it public for everyone, so it can be found in search. You can make it unlisted, so only those with the link can watch it. This is useful if you have a landing page with videos you don’t want on YouTube.

You can also make videos private, so only you or those you gave specific permission can watch. This option is for videos you have but don’t want to remove completely. Maybe you’ll use them again. It’s a good idea to put a video in private mode instead of deleting it completely, even if it’s not relevant anymore.

You can change the publishing situation anytime on YouTube. You can also schedule it. For example, make a video unlisted for a while, then make it public, or do the opposite.

 When you upload a video, on the last page of the upload process, you have the option to schedule it. You can make it public right away, unlisted, or private.

Schedule Video on YouTube

You can also schedule it to be published as a premiere at a specific time. YouTube also has a new feature allowing you to make a video public only for your members. After a certain time, it can become public for everyone. This is a way to give your members a sneak peek at your content before everyone else. It’s useful if you have a sale, and you want them to know about it first for a special bonus or limited seats.

If you want to change a video from public to unlisted, for example, after ending a sale or giveaway, you need to go to your content tab in YouTube Studio.

You can change the publishing status here by clicking on the visibility of the video, and you’ll see all three options to switch to. You can also schedule a video that was published, making it private until it’s set to be public again. Set the date and time, and you’re done.

When you schedule a video to go public or when you make the video public, you can set the video as a premiere.

A YouTube Premiere is a feature that allows you to debut a pre-recorded video as a live moment. When you use Premiere, your audience can watch and experience the video together as if it were a live stream, complete with a live chat feature. The video is played at a scheduled time, creating a shared viewing experience for your audience.

When you schedule a video without a Premiere, it will only show on YouTube when it is published. But if you set it to premiere, everyone can find it on your channel and in the subscribers’ feed. They can also set a reminder to be there when the premiere starts.

Unlisted and private videos on public playlists

When you add a video to an unlisted playlist, the video appears in the playlist just like a regular video. So, if you don’t want the video to be visible and public, you need to remove the video when you make it unlisted. The same applies to private videos; they will appear in the playlist, but viewers won’t see them—they will be blank and unplayable. So, it’s advisable to remove them from the playlist when you make the video private.

I will show you how to remove private and unlisted videos from your playlist at the end of the video using TubeBuddy’s free playlist tool.

When you need to remove a video from a playlist or change its status from public to private or unlisted, you need to go to your Content tab and make the changes there. You can also make these changes within the video info page.

TubeBuddy Schedule tools

But what if you want to set a video to become unlisted or private after a while, and you don’t want to remember to do it manually? Well, with YouTube, you can only schedule videos to go public, not the other way around. When you change the status, you also need to go to all of your playlists and remove the videos from them.

So when the sale or giveaway ends, the video becomes private. This isn’t something you can do with YouTube settings, but you can achieve it with the TubeBuddy Publishing Video tool, available with a Legend subscription.

If you don’t have TubeBuddy yet, go to their website download the extension for free by clicking the “Get” button, sign in with your Gmail on the TubeBuddy website, enter your dashboard, and connect your channel. You can connect as many channels as you want for free. For the paid option, you can only do that for one channel per subscription, so choose the right one when paying. Click on “Upgrade,” and if you have a Pro account and want to use this tool, you can upgrade to Legend. After upgrading your membership, you can do much more with scheduling videos.

To access the new tools, go to YouTube Studio and navigate to the Content tab. Once there, select the video you want to schedule for changes in the future. Look for the TubeBuddy logo in the line under the video on the Content tab. This saves you from having to go into the video each time you want to make changes.

When you click on the TubeBuddy logo, you’ll see a list of tools. We’re interested in the Publishing list, which contains three tools. Let’s see how to use each one and when it’s appropriate to use them.

How to use Schedule Publish TubeBuddy’s tool

The first tool is Schedule Publish, and it comes with additional settings that you don’t find in YouTube’s regular options. Firstly, you need to set the time for when this action will go live. TubeBuddy provides suggestions for a good publishing time, but you have the flexibility to choose. For instance, if you have a brand deal and need the video to be live at a specific time, you can set it here.

Next, there are two options. Usually, when you schedule with YouTube, you can only make the video public but not unlisted. If you want to make it unlisted at a specific time, you can do that here. Another useful option is to add the video to a playlist. Normally, a video in a playlist appears even when it’s private or unlisted. If you want it to be in the playlist only when it’s published, you can’t do that with YouTube alone. However, this option allows you to choose the playlist you want the video added to after it goes live.

The next option is to add a comment when the video goes live. This is useful for including a link to a landing page or an affiliate link in the first comment. With YouTube, you can’t add a comment to a video when you publish it, but TubeBuddy provides that option for you.

The last setting is to receive a notification when the video is live. For example, if you want to check for comments when it’s live, and the video is scheduled for a time in the future when you’re on vacation and might forget about it, you can receive a notification to the email associated with your TubeBuddy account.

All of these settings can be done after you upload the video. After you set everything in the upload, leave it as private and then use the TubeBuddy publishing tool. 

If you want to edit or delete a scheduled video, go to that video, open the TubeBuddy logo, and find the tool. Then, you can see that you have scheduled this video, and you can cancel it or edit it from here.

How to make a public video unlisted and remove it from playlists automatically on schedule

The next tool on the list is the Sunset Video. With this tool, you can set a video to go from public to unlisted or private when you schedule it. 

If you have a special announcement and you want this to be given after a few hours or days, then you can use this tool to get a public video back to private. Here is how to use it: 

After you open the tool, you see a few options. First, when this thing needs to take place, set the date and time. Then choose if you want the video to be unlisted or private. If you want this video to be seen with a direct link, then set that to unlisted. The next option is to remove the video from the playlist. 

This is good if you set this video in a playlist, and when it becomes private, it stays on the playlist as a blank video. That way, you remove the video completely. 

You can choose which playlist you want this video to be removed. And again, you have the option to get a reminder before it happens. To make it live, save it with a click on the schedule button.

What’s the difference between the public schedule and sunset video TubeBuddy tools?

The Publish Schedule and Video Sunset tools by TubeBuddy are very similar. The difference is that with the Video Sunset tool, you can also make the video private and remove it from playlists. In contrast, with the Publish Schedule tool, you can only make it unlisted and add the video to a playlist.

How to change the title or description for a video on a specific date

The last tool is excellent if you have a video and want to make changes to it after a few days or weeks. It’s the Schedule Video Update, and you can update the video title, description, and even the thumbnail. This is useful if you have a title that is more clickbait when you post it to get more clicks, but you want to change the title later for better search results. It’s good to schedule these changes while you upload the video, so you don’t forget about it later.

In this tool, you have three tabs. The first one is for the video settings. If you leave it blank, it won’t change anything. If you add text, you can replace the existing text or add it before or after what’s already there. It’s well thought out, and I like how they considered every detail. Here, you can also change the privacy of the video. For example, if you have the video as a bonus for your members as a sneak peek before everyone, you can write “for members only” in the title. Later, when you make it public for everyone, you can change the title for a more general audience and set it as public. Then, you have the date and time to set these changes on the video.

In the next tab, you have playlist settings. You can add or remove the video from playlists. When you check the box for the playlist, you get the playlists you have on your channel. You can also add the playlist ID instead of choosing from the list. This is useful if you have playlists with similar names, and you’re not sure which one to add this video to.

You can schedule the playlist changes at a different time than the basic video info.

The last tab is very interesting. If you want to change a video’s info for just a few days and then revert to the original, you can do that too by choosing to roll back the changes. Again, here you can schedule the changes separately from the playlist and info dates. 

Remove all unlisted videos and reorder playlists – a free tool from TubeBuddy

TubeBuddy also has a great free tool that can help you clean your playlists from unlisted and private videos, so you don’t need to go to each one and manually remove them. This tool can also assist you in organizing your videos. Let’s see how to use it.

To access the tool, be in the Playlist tab, which you can find in the Content tab. Alternatively, use the TubeBuddy shortcut by clicking on the red button at the top of your YouTube window, available wherever you are on YouTube. You don’t need to be in the studio, and this feature is also free from TubeBuddy.

Find the Playlist shortcut and click on it. Next to each playlist, you’ll see a TubeBuddy logo. This is for the tools specific to that playlist. Find the playlist you want to edit and click on the logo.

The first option is to change the privacy of the playlist. Like videos, you can create public, unlisted, and private playlists. If you want to change the status, you need to go to the playlist editing window, and TubeBuddy provides a convenient shortcut for that.

Next, you have the option to get a new order for the playlist videos. You can change it in several different ways, such as organizing the videos based on their popularity. If there are videos in the playlist that are not from your channel, you can set that all of your videos will be first. Alternatively, you can change the video order based on any of the parameters from your analytics, like percentage view duration, so the videos with the most views in the first 30 seconds will be first. You can open the list and explore all your options to reorder the playlist.

The last option is to remove videos from your playlist. You can remove private and unlisted videos, videos that are not yours, and even videos that are duplicated. After choosing the editing options you want for the playlist, click on apply, and it will take a few seconds or moments for TubeBuddy to process. The processing time depends on the number of videos in the playlist. They don’t recommend using this for playlists with more than 1000 videos. This tool is not set up to run automatically for new videos added to the playlist in the future. So, if you want to edit the order of the videos or delete them from the playlist, you can run this tool anytime you want.

By the way, it’s a free tool you get from TubeBuddy. For the free plan, the reordering option is available for the first two categories only; you can’t reorder the videos based on your analytics. Still, this tool is very useful if you’ve changed video statuses in your content and can’t remember where they are in the playlists. Even if you do know, there are a lot of videos, and you want to remove them without going into each playlist and finding each one.

If you want to remove a video from all the playlists it appears on while making it unlisted or private, use the other TubeBuddy publishing tools that have this option, as discussed earlier in this post. 

How to find out where a video is on any playlist on your channel- free tool

If you don’t remember which playlist this video is, you can use TubeBuddy to find out. Get to the video in the Content tab, click on the TubeBuddy logo, and then find the Info tab. Here, you have the video ID and the link to the video to copy. After that, you have a list of all the playlists this video is on. You can copy the link to the playlist, which will direct you to the video in the playlist.

Now, you can use it in two ways. First, if you want to change the order of the video, you can do that here. Second, it’s a good idea to give a direct link to a video in a playlist. That way, you get the other videos on the playlist in front of someone who may otherwise not find them. So, this Info tab can help you save time. Instead of going into the playlist that this video is on, finding the video, and then copying the link, now all you need to do is go to your video, click on the TubeBuddy logo, and you have it.

one default upload setting on YouTube

If you’re making a series of similar content, you might need different affiliate links in the description. You could also be someone creating content about things with similarities, and you want the description to reflect this each time. However, on YouTube, you only have one default upload setting. So, you need to keep the description more general and include only what you want for every video you upload.

Suppose you want to have more default uploads so that you won’t have to copy and paste every time you have another video on the same topic. In that case, you’ll want to watch this video because I will show you how to use TubeBuddy default uploads. TubeBuddy gives you options to be more efficient with your time, create more content, and get everything done faster. It also helps you not forget or skip steps that can help your YouTube channel grow quickly just because you don’t have time for all the details.

So, this tool gives you the option to add different descriptions, tags, or any other settings that you want to apply to this kind of video. When you upload the video, you can choose from your list of default uploads what you want for this specific video. It will then change the description, tags, and settings to this upload setting. You can also change specific things on a video that you’ve already uploaded with this shortcut.

Is TubeBuddy’s default upload tool available for free?

This tool is available for all plans, including the free plan. So, for free, you can add one more default setting. If you want more, you need to pay for the Pro or Legend plans. If you don’t have the TubeBuddy extension, start by adding the free extension, which gives you one more default uploading setting.

Now, you return to the TubeBuddy website, and you need to sign in with your Gmail account. After you are in your new dashboard, you need to connect your YouTube channel. For the free account, you can have a few channels connected, but for the paid one, you need to choose one channel that you are going to work on. Then you can upgrade your account to pro or Legend if you want more than an extra default setting. 

If you want to upgrade, click on the channel you want to upgrade and choose the plan that suits you, then pay for the subscription.

Setting Default Descriptions and Tags on YouTube

If you want to continue with the free option or already have a TubeBuddy paid plan, the next step is to go to your channel settings. Click on YouTube Studio in the top-right menu, and go to settings (the second-to-last option in the left menu). Find the default setting. If you’ve never created a default setting, you can do this now for all your videos. You can add a title, description, and tags.

I usually leave the title blank because every title is different, but for the description and tags, I add all I can so I won’t have to create them each time from the beginning. For the default YouTube description, I added my social media, websites, and some general affiliate links. I also added a disclaimer stating that I have affiliate links in the description. For tags, I add general tags that suit my channel videos.

With the TubeBuddy default setting, I can create a more precise description and tags. First, I copy the description I already have in the YouTube default description. Then, I click on the new TubeBuddy default upload option at the bottom of this window.

I’ve been asked to add a name to these default uploads because I’m currently in the middle of a video series tutorial for TubeBuddy. So, I named it “TubeBuddy Tutorials.” Then, I get to the same page as the default upload from YouTube. I pasted the description I already have. Why create everything from the beginning? 

Next, I add on the top of the default description things that are related to TubeBuddy. I include the playlist I have for TubeBuddy, the affiliate links, and maybe some more videos I’ve already uploaded that I want to be there. By the way, if you do this after you already have some videos and you want to change the description, you can use “find and replace” instead of going to each one and doing that. You can find the video in the description.

Now, add as many tags as you wish for this kind of video. Tags are not so much of a big deal, so don’t waste too much time. You can open a video you have on this topic and find tags that you used, or use the TubeBuddy tag suggestions. Then, copy everything to the settings. You should know that YouTube recognizes double taggings, but TubeBuddy doesn’t.

So, if you copy it twice, it will show all of your tags, and then you need to delete all of the double tags. Also, after you copy the tags, hit enter so the list will become tags. You know that it is tags when you see the X to delete tags.

If you get more than 500 characters, you can’t save the settings, so make sure you are within the limits. Then, you can go to the second tab and change things there for the default upload only for this video. After you finish, just click on save.

Applying Default Settings to Videos

Now that you have a new default setting, you can use it when you upload a new video or for videos you already have that don’t have descriptions or tags. Here’s how you use it: upload a new video, then you can see a TubeBuddy button. They have many buttons all over your YouTube Studio, so you need the one next to the title. When you click on it, you will see two options: one for the default upload and one for the SEO Studio, which we will discuss in another video.

Click on the “setting” option, and you will see the list of the default uploads you have. Choose the right one for this video, and then click on “apply.” After that, it will change everything in the video to the default you chose. If you want the YouTube default, you don’t need to choose anything; it will be there anyway. Now you get all the new information based on the setting.

Changing Default Settings for Uploaded Videos

If you want to change a description or tags or anything for videos you already uploaded, go to the video you want to change. You should know that this will replace any information you already have for that video. So, if you need to save some information from that video, copy that before you switch to a different TubeBuddy upload default. Then find the upload default; it is under the “card” tab on the right side of the video settings. If you don’t see any options, click on the upload default, and it will refresh the page.

Then find the profile of the upload default you want to change to and decide what you want to change. I want to change only the description but not the tags, settings, or title. So, I click on the box to remove them from the changes.

Now, let’s give it a few seconds to change everything in the description. Because I did have some special text for this video, I added that text I copied before I changed the TubeBuddy profile of the upload default. 

Managing Default Settings

If you want to add more default descriptions and tags for different categories for your content, you can go back to the settings and add as many default settings as you want. If you ever want to change or delete a default setting, you can do that by going to settings. When you click on the TubeBuddy icon, you can see a list of all your default uploads. Click on the specific setting you want to change and modify it. Note that it will change it only here, and for future displays.

If you want to change videos you’ve already uploaded and you don’t want to go one by one, you can use the find and replace feature from TubeBuddy, another great tool that you should use to make your life easier when it comes to YouTube. When you create the upload default and you have monetization on your channel, you can set the monetization as you wish for each upload using this default setting. It works on all the tabs that you have for default uploads.

What will happen when I cancel TubeBuddy?

Probably, you’re asking yourself what will happen to all of your settings, like this one on the default setting, if you cancel your subscription to TubeBuddy. Well, I wondered about that too. After asking the support team, they told me that they were not taking hostages, and what you set while you had TubeBuddy is supposed to stay on your account even after you stop paying. However, the tools that are supposed to be paid for will not be available to use.

Affiliate programs change their affiliate links

Affiliate programs tend to change their platforms, including the custom links you use to get sales under your name. I know this because it has happened to me too many times. When you have a YouTube channel and you have these affiliate links in your descriptions, it’s very painful to go to all those videos and start changing the links one by one. In this video, I will show you how you can save a lot of time and do that in bulk with TubeBuddy’s Find and Replace tool. 

Additionally, at the end of the video, I’ll show you another way you should start using now to avoid even the need for using Find and Replace when affiliate programs change their links. This Find and Replace tool is also handy when you have a new website or landing page you want to add to all your videos. It could be that you uploaded the videos without adding descriptions and links, and now you need to go to all your old videos and add those links to your website and social media. In that case, TubeBuddy’s Find and Replace can also help you do that very quickly. Here is how to use it.

So, to start with TubeBuddy, you need to download the free app. The free app is for some other tools, but if you want to use the Find and Replace option, you need to have the paid plan, and for this, you need the Legend plan. You can see the link to the pricing page in the description. So first, download the app. It is free for other tools; you can do that by clicking on the download app, and then clicking on get.

Now, you return to the TubeBuddy website, and you need to sign in with your Gmail account. After you are in your new dashboard, you need to connect your YouTube channel. For the free account, you can have a few channels connected, but for the paid one, you need to choose one channel that you are going to work on. Then you need to upgrade your account to Legend if you want to use this tool and others. Now, pay for it and connect your right channel because you can connect only the channels for any paid plan. If you by mistake connected to a different channel, then you need to contact customer service so they will change the channel for you.

Now, when your channel is set, go to your YouTube Studio for this channel and find the Content tab. Here you have a few buttons for TubeBuddy. You need this one; click on it and find the Find and Replace Text tool.

Before adding the text for find and replace, you have a few choices for where to place the new text. You can find and replace, or add at the end of the description, or before or after the text you add in the first box. You can also completely remove text without changing it. Just choose what you need.

For example, if you have a promotion for a short time, you can add the text at the beginning of the description of all your videos. When the promotion ends, you can remove them in bulk. This also works if you have videos created about an affiliate product with a coupon and sale. You can add that coupon and remove it when the sale is over.

Next, there are two boxes. The first box is for the text you need to find. I copy it from my oldest videos so it will be the same words and links as I created it first, so it will recognize what I want to replace. Then, I copy the text from the default upload, but you can add any text you want to replace here. It’s not easy to edit, so I suggest you write it on Docs before you add it here, so you can see all of your text if it’s long.

After that, you have a few options under the text boxes. If you want to change the description or titles of videos, most of the time, you probably are going to use only the description option. Then you have a few examples and then click on the continue button.

On the next page, you have a few options on how to find the videos you want to replace the text. You can choose to find it on all of your videos, or you can limit this to 10 videos each time for faster processing. Another option is to use the video ID, and I’ll show you how to use this later in the video. You can also add playlists if you want to replace text in a specific playlist, which could be handy for adding text to videos on a specific topic. Alternatively, you can search videos with search terms in the last option.

After that, it will scan your channel to find the videos. Now, you get a list of all the videos that match your criteria. In my case, it’s based on the text I want to replace on all of my videos. You can see that videos that match have green text at the end of the line. You can choose manually which video you want to process for this find and replace, or you can click on the “All” button to select all the eligible videos. Now click on continue. If you didn’t find the right videos, you can go back and change the search terms.

Now it will start processing. This can take a few minutes, especially if you encounter some problems like I did. Some of the videos got errors. When I checked, it happened because I had longer text to replace, and on those videos that got errors, I had reached the maximum number of characters YouTube allows. So, it didn’t process them. But you can see on the other side, that other videos did process.

When it finished, before I closed it, I copied the ID list (you can see the blue text here), and then I pasted that on a document just to keep it for now.

Next, I opened this find and replaced the tool again. This time I made the text shorter so it would fit in the description even when it is almost at the maximum 5000 characters.

Then I got to the next page and put that ID list I saved from the other task and pasted it here. On the next page, it recognized this list, and I got all the videos right. Then I processed it again, and only one video didn’t pass this time. Again, it was because I reached the 5000-character limit YouTube has on descriptions.

Of all the TubeBuddy tools, I like this one. It saves a lot of time and can make money if you put links for affiliate products or your new product to sell.

If you use different affiliate programs, you might find yourself in a situation where they change the program, and you need to update all the links in your content. Sometimes, it’s not just on YouTube where you can use TubeBuddy’s Find and Replace. For such situations, I highly suggest using a service like Switchy.
